Nicki Minaj helps 'GMA' celebrate 1 M mark of Warm Hearts Coat Drive

Nicki Minaj was on hand today to help Good Morning America celebrate its achievement of collecting one million coats for its annual Warm Hearts Coat Drive. Fresh off her controversial performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards and a starring role with Madonna at the Super Bowl, Minaj donated her own coat to help the worthy endeavor and said, “This is so great!” Right after accepting her donation, the anchors announced that GMA finally exceeded its lofty goal of collecting one million coats. The new 2011/2012 collection total for The Warm Hearts Coat Drive now stands at 1,022,345 and donations will still be accepted at Burlington Coat Factory stores through February 20th.

The Warm Hearts Coat Drive kicked off in December and stars from the worlds of Broadway, Hollywood and sports have willingly lined up to support GMA’s worthy cause. Kelly Ripa, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Broadway’s Catherine Russell, Elmo, plus kids across the country have all donated coats to ensure that “everyone who needs a warm coat this winter gets one,” which is the motto of the annual coat drive. Ryan Seacrest also participated in the worthy endeavor and said, “Here’s one more coat to get closer to the one million goal.”

Well, that goal has been reached and the 2012 Warm Hearts Coat Drive is the most successful ever. This marks the fifth year of the annual campaign and every year it gets bigger and better.

  • 2007: 175, 125 coats collected
  • 2008: 177, 339 coats collected
  • 2009: 291, 762 coats collected
  • 2010: 291, 864 coats collected
  • 2011/2012: 1, 022, 345 coats collected

People across America can still donate to the Warm Hearts Coat Drive. Donations of gently used coats, sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts, hats and gloves can be dropped off at any Burlington Coat Factory. The donated items will be distributed at no charge to people in need by charities working with One Warm Coat nationwide.

In addition to promoting Warm Hearts Coat Drive, Nicki Minaj was also on hand with Ricky Martin to promote their partnership for MAC Cosmetic’s Viva Glam lipstick campaign to raise awareness about AIDS. The signature lipstick sells for $14 and is available in two shades of pink. All proceeds benefit the campaign that has raised $224 million for HIV/AIDS-related causes since launching in 1994. The star’s first single called “Starships” dropped yesterday. It’s from her “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” album, which debuts on April 3, 2012.
