Does the Post Office deliver mail Monday, Dec. 31, or Tuesday, January 1? Yes, and no! The USPS reports they are closed New Year's Day for mail delivery, but most local post offices close early at noon on Monday, New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2012.
Coventry Patch reported Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 that area post offices are open on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, but will close at noon. Because New Year's Day is also a federal holiday, all post offices in the Providence, Rhode Island area are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 as well.
According to The New York Times, there is no regular postal service on Tuesday, New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2013, only express mail delivery.
