New polls show Americans hate Congress, but side with Democrats over Republicans

Congress hasn't been too popular lately and the American people haven't been shy about letting them know about it. While Congress in general has seen their numbers drop, voters are more likely to side with Democrat candidates than their Republican counter parts.

Whether it's a government shutdown, slashing essential relief programs, cutting education or anything else on the Congress' "not too do" list over the last few years, Americans are fed up with the inactivity in Washington. According to a new poll released by the Pew Research Center, Americans might not like Congress, but they like Republicans in Washington even less. Pew asked the question "If the elections for U.S. Congress were being held TODAY, would you vote for the Republican Party’s candidate or the Democratic Party’s candidate for Congress in your district?" The response showed that 48 percent of likely voters would choose the Democratic candidate and 44 percent would side with the Republican. Eight percent remained undecided. In a similar poll by CNN in October, 50 percent of those asked would vote for a Democrat, while only 42 percent were more supportive of the Republican candidate.

In a Gallup poll released in November, Congress polled at a record low 9 percent, only slightly rising to 12 percent in the month of December. Digging deeper, a CNN poll from this fall showed that 75 percent of Americans believe that most Republicans in Congress didn't deserve re-election. October was a scary month for the Republican party and their brand, reflecting in a Gallup poll that showed the party's 28 percent approval rating, the lowest approval rating in the 20 year history of Gallup asking the question.

Congress is, if nothing else, a disorganized mess. Even when the two sides can come to a decent enough compromise in the recent Ryan/Murray budget, there are loud screams voicing their opposition. Many on the political left have giving their reason why the deal is not a positive one, but it's the Tea Party members on the right who are making life miserable for more established Republicans who only want to find some light at the end of the tunnel.

The majority of those in Congress are not stupid people, but often have to cater toward ignorant voters. When those who are ignorant vote in many who reflect their same ideology, you get what you vote for - a giant disorganized mess.
