From Maryland’s State Capital and the Naval Academy you will soon find midshipmen and politicians alike enjoying the Italian-American fare from Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant recently opened in the Annapolis Mall. I’m not usually impressed with chain restaurants but my sailor’s cap is off to Maggiano’s for their quality of service, value for the dollar, from scratch cooking, food allergy alternatives (including for those with celiac disease) and community commitment.
Maggiano’s Little Italy in Annapolis opened its doors a couple weeks ago during National Pasta Month, apropos, but America’s obsession with pasta won’t stop at the end of the month. Pasta for one or family style pastas are a number of your choices; eat in, carry-out and have it delivered. Lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccine Alfredo, marinara or meat sauce choices in their House Classic Pastas feeds you twice – all day, every day. When you order anyone of these pastas you receive a second serving to go, one for today and another for tomorrow.
At their grand opening, I had the opportunity to try not only the House Classic Pastas but their salads, appetizers, specialty pastas, crab cakes, beef tenderloin and a selection of their desserts; cheesecake, tiramisu and the apple crostada with ice cream and caramel sauce. Our servers were on point and handled the situation with aplomb. (menu selections)
Like I said earlier, the cooking is from scratch in each Maggiano’s kitchen, nothing arrives from a central commissary which then allows the chef and his staff to deal with specific allergies and special request.
Maggiano’s executive chef in Annapolis, Andrew Swindell, talked about cooking classes they will be offering out for children. They have made commitments over the years to numerous charities but heavily support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
There are 45 Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurants in 22 states in the United States.
