After many quirky holidays about cats, trash and cigarettes, a food holiday is finally here. Friday, June 1, is National Donut Day! This day is celebrated on the first Friday of June. Lucky for us, this year, Friday is the very first day of June! I like this month already.
National Donut Day began in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army. It was meant to honor the women who would hold donut fund raisers for needy causes and prepare donuts and other treats for the soldiers.
What makes a sugary donut even sweeter? If it’s free! And today you can snag a free donut at several locations.
