NASA is set to announce Tuesday the next wave of new planet discoveries by the Kepler space telescope.
The space agency will hold a news conference at 11 am MST Tuesday.
On Dec. 5 NASA detailed the confirmation of the existence of an Earth-like planet outside of our solar system. Kepler 22-b is about 600 light years away and is in the habitable zone of its star, which means that temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold to preclude liquitd water on its surface.
The Kepler space telescope was launched in March 2009. Scientists have used it to discover more than 2,300 potential planets and to confirm the existence of 28 extra-solar planets.
