Italian club team SSC Napoli lost 3-1 against Spaniard club team Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday for the second leg of the playoffs of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg played last week ended in a 1-1 tie at the home of the Italian club team from Naples.

It was reported that the Italian club team took the lead two minutes after the break. The goal was made by Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik. The Slovakian player took a nice low shot from the top of the box that made it past goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz.

The Spaniard club from Bilbao scored the equalizer in the 61st minute via Aritz Anduriz. The Spaniard forward Anduriz scored again in the 69th minute to give Athletic the lead.

SSC Napoli fought to get an equalizer but it was no avail as Athletic Bilbao scored a third to put the nail in the coffin. The last goal came in the 74th minute via Ibai Gomez from Spain.

Athletic from Spain will now enter the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. As for the Italian club team, they are disqualified from the Champions League and were the last Italian team to try to make the prestigious tournament.

The loss for SSC Napoli against Athletic Bilbao is considered to be a huge upset for Italian soccer. With the Naples team out of the UEFA Champions League only two clubs from Serie A will be representing Italian soccer. Those two teams from Serie A are Juventus FC and AS Roma.
