Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham welcomed two Indian stars to Tampa Bay with a good ole Namaste, Y'all. Bollywood stars Anil Kapoor ('Slum dog Millionaire', 'Mission Impossible-Ghost protocol') and Priyanka Chopra (Former Ms. World, Actor, Singer) were in Tampa to kick off the ticket sales for the upcoming International Indian Film Academy Awards show coming April 24-26. The visit took place at the old Tampa Theater. Mayor Bob Buckhorn spoke of how this event will probably top last years Republican Convention and that if the stars are all as pretty as Chopra then this is going to be a good thing for Tampa Bay.

Chopra has said that yes she has spent more time in Miami but looks forward to spending time in Tampa in April. She's looking forward to getting a tan at the many beaches we have to offer, though not specifically talking about which one.

It was said that in the first couple of hours of the opening of ticket sales for the Awards show that 7000 out of the 25,000 seats had already been sold. The Awards show will be the finale of a great event weekend and will be held at Raymond James Stadium. Tickets for the Award show go from $93- $3,300 .

The estimated amount of people for the upcoming weekend will be somewhere between 30 to 50 thousand people. The three day event will see a big payoff for the city but as the Mayor stated it really isn't the money anymore. It's simply the fact that Tampa Bay is actually looking forward to the weekend. Seriously, I have to admit I'm looking forward to it myself. The food events and the music performances and the dance contests are going to be fantastic.

This event allows both groups of people to experience the best of what they have to offer. I personally feel a certain magic will be felt and look forward to reporting from some of the events. It looks like April will be a great month of fun and festivity. So if you can get away from the ordinary functions of life then head on down to Tampa to experience the wide variety of cultures that will be represented. It will be much more fun than the Republican Convention.
