MSNBC's Karen Finney apologizes after calling conservatives 'crazy crackers'

On Tuesday, MSNBC contributor and former Democratic National Committee communications director Karen Finney issued a tweet offering an apology if anyone was offended by her calling conservative Republicans "crazy crackers on the right."

"@LeftyBollocks apologize if anyone offended - not meant as racial, alliteration like coo-coo crazy, or cracked, crack pots," she wrote.

“Those crazy crackers on the right, like if they start with their very hateful language, that is going to kill them in the same way they learned at their little retreat, let's not talk about rape," she said while appearing on MSNBC's "Now with Alex Wagner."

A number of people on Twitter called her out for the racist slur, prompting her to issue what she considered an apology.

Jim Hoft, who observed that many liberals in the media "don’t even try to hide their hate for conservative Americans today," wrote at the Gateway Pundit that "MSNBC did not apologize for their guest’s racist hate speech," because the network was "too busy" running doctored videos.

Newsbusters' Matt Vespa wrote that the segment was intended to chide Republicans for "allegedly dehumanizing Hispanics with terms like 'illegal immigrant' and 'anchor babies.'"

"Of course," Vespa added, "Finney, a board member of abortion lobby group NARAL Pro-Choice America knows a thing or two about dehumanizing innocents."

Vespa didn't buy Finney's on-line "apology."

"Finney tried to explain herself via Twitter, and apologized saying it wasn't racial because cracker and crack pot are the same thing. Sure, whatever you say Finney," he wrote.
