According to Scott Powers of ESPN on Thursday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brenden Morrow of the St. Louis Blues will be out for the remainder of the Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Chicago Blackhawks with a lower body injury. In 94 career playof games, Morrow has 46 points.

Morrow did not play in game four of the series on Wednesday evening. Patrick Kane scored the overtime winner at 11:17 from Ben Smith to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 victory. With the win, the Blackhawks and Blues are tied in the Western Conference quarterfinal series at two games apiece.

Morrow had 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points with the Blues this season while playing a leadership and checking role. The native of Carlyle, Saskatchewan won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Morrow is not the only high profile Blue forward out of the lineup. David Backes did not play Wednesday night either as he is still feeling the effects of a hit he received from Blackhawks' defenseman Brent Seabrook in game two of the series on Saturday.

Meanwhile, according to Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche is back skating after suffering a knee injury a month ago. Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy seemed very pleased with how Duchene did with particular drills.

Game four of the Colorado Avalanche-Minnesota Wild Western Conference quarterfinal series goes Thursday evening in Minnesota. The Avalanche lead the series 2-1.

In other action on Wednesday evening, Nick Foligno sparked a comeback for the ages as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime in their first home playoff victory in franchise history. The Blue Jackets were trailing 3-0 in the first period before scoring four unanswered goals to tie the series at two. Amazingly, in every game so far in the series a team has been leading 3-1, but lost every time.

Also Vernon Fiddler scored a goal and an assist as the Dallas Stars defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. That Western Conference quarterfinal series is also now tied at two games apiece.
