Like horror movies and monsters? Want to meet a few real ones ? Then get over to the Crown Point Hotel on Route 70 in Cherry Hill before Sunday afternoon, to Monstermania. A convention for horror movie fans and pop culture.
Of course, you can see people dressed in costume. Or, you can come in costume yourself. There are different booths there that will sell you anything from an Amity beach tag to employment id's to different things you may have seen in the movies. There are countless people selling skulls and t shirts. However the biggest draw is the stars themselves.
People like Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger), Gunar Hansen the original Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre fame, is there with R.A . Mihailoff, and Bill Johnson and Dan Yeager, who also played in the sequels. They are all really nice even if they can look quite intimidating.
Ernie Hudson is there , best known for Ghostbusters and Oz. He also played on a bunch of other things you can find here.
Ilan Mitchell Smith from Weird Science was there. that was a fantastic movie made in 1985. His claim to fame is the fact he got to make out with Kelly LeBrock in the movie. He laughs about it now, especially when asked how many takes it took to get the shot right.
For guys, Drea DeMatteo was thereto sign autographs and say hello. If you think she is good looking on TV, wait till you see her in person. Dark Shadows fans can meet Kathryn Leigh Scott,Lara Parker, Jerry Lacy and Marie Wallace.
Inside the convention you can find little gems such as a a movie called A Place in Hell. This independent film is based on Philadelphia serial killer Harrison Graham. You may remember him from the1980's. He claimed dead bodies were in his house when he moved in. The movie was filmed in Philadelphia.and the surrounding area. It will be shown in Toronto and then hopefully picked up for distribution. The trailer looks promising.
Most of those attending say that top billing should have gone to Englund instead of two twins that appeared briefly in a movie 20 years ago. The line for Englund was at times four fours. Most of the time there was little or no line for the supposed headliners. If you go , bring your wallet and patience, as you will find things you want for sure.
