A missing woman is lucky to be alive after she was found in a gravel pit not too far from her home on Saturday night.

Theresa May, 59, left her home near the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer on Friday morning and never returned home. She was bundled up for the weather wearing a black coat and a black knit hat, but not good enough to be out all night. The MAT SAR Search and Rescue team began searching for her, but could not locate her. They were even thinking she may have caught a ride somewhere.

Tim Despain an AST spokesman told KTUU news that the team, along with her family were concerned for her safety because of the cold temperatures.

“We’d like to find her as soon as possible, for her sake," said Despain.

The search continued and 36-hours later Theresa was found in the gravel pit south of her home, where she fell in and could not get out. She was cold and dehydrated and taken to the MatSu Regional Hospital where she is being treated.
