Young is an aspiring actor and won the "Miss World" competition held this year in Bali, Indonesia. The runners-up were Miss France (Marine Lorphelin) and Miss Ghana (Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter). 127 total contestants took place in the competition this year.
While she was born in the United States, Young moved to the Philippines when she was 10-years-old. She is now a college student and has worked as an actress since the age of 15. According to her "Miss World" bio, she wants to someday work as a film director.
Miss Philippines won a pageant that was full of controversy, as Muslim extremists in Indonesia protested the event, calling it many unflattering terms and questioning its morality. Police say that there were no rallies staged and peace was kept throughout.
The protesters have been calling for their government to cancel the "Miss World" festivities, saying that it goes against their Islamic teachings. As a result of the protests, the pageant banned bikinis from the swimwear competition this year.
Luckily, there was no violence or disruptions, and Miss Philippines was able to walk out of the "Miss World" pageant as the new winner.
