Support for texture packs were added in the recent Title Update 12 (TU12) release for Minecraft on the Xbox 360 Edition but Mash-Up Packs take the concept several steps further. Aside from just giving the game world new textures, it creates an entire world around a theme using textures, character skins, music and even the user interface. Players will be able to use the pre-crafted Theme World that 4J Studios provides or use create their own.
In the case of the first Mash-Up Pack released trailer produced by Hat Films, that theme is Mass Effect complete with playable characters like Commander Shepard from the game and enemies. It comes with 36 skins based on the Mass Effect universe along with a themed texture packs and UI plus a world based on the Mars Facility and a 22 track soundtrack based on Mass Effect 3.
The Mass Effect Mash-Up Pack will be released through the Xbox LIVE Marketplace (now officially the Xbox Games Store) on Wednesday, Sept. 4 for $3.99 (320 MS Points).
4J Studios still plans to release individual texture packs as well but the Mass Effect Mash-up Pack is the first to be released of many yet to be announced.
