When 4J Studios’ Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was first released in the spring of 2012, the creative building game was initially only available as a digital download for the first year after its launch. As revealed by Sony on Aug 20 as part of an official breakdown of PS4 launch titles, it was confirmed that the Playstation 4 version of Minecraft will also only be digitally available at release.
It’s possible that the PS4 edition of Minecraft could receive a physical retail disc release like the Xbox 360 version before it. However, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition didn’t launch a retail version until June of 2013, a full year after it was released digitally.
Minecraft, coming to the Playstation family of consoles, is being developed by 4J Studios who are no strangers to the franchise as they are the same development team responsible for porting the game to Xbox 360.
