'Minecraft' for PS4, Xbox One and PS Vita will have to wait for 2014

Those hoping for a surprise release of Minecraft to the Playstation 4, PS Vita or Xbox One before the end of 2013 will have to wait a little longer. 4J Studios confirmed Tuesday that the other editions will not arrive until next year while the PS3 or Xbox 360 will not receive any additional updates.

"Thanks for another great year everyone! 4J Studios is now off for a Christmas break. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas," the Minecraft console developer wrote on Twitter.

"We'll be back in 2014 to continue work on #MinecraftXBLA, #MinecraftPS3, #MinecraftXbox1, #MinecraftPS4 and #MinecraftPSVita."

Minecraft recently showed up in a PS Vita remote play how-to video showing the game listed in the PS4 menu. This led some to think that the game would possibly be released by the end of the year.

This also means that the 1.02 patch released to Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition over the past weekend will be the last patch for the year. That means owners of that version of the game will have to deal with the lingering bugs since the game was first released.

Meanwhile, the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition last received the Avengers Skin Pack yesterday which will the final bit of content for the year on that version of the open-world sandbox game.
