A Michigan witness at St. Joseph recalls a 1974 close encounter with a triangle UFO that hovered just 60 feet off of the ground in front of multiple witnesses, according to February 25, 2014, testimony in Case 54289 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The reporting witness and a friend were driving near St. Joseph in Berrien County, MI, about midnight on July 11, 1974, when lights up ahead appeared as though they were about to hit road construction.
But then they moved closer to the lights.
"As we got within a mile it was easy to count three lights," the witness stated. "Very soon after that I knew somehow that it was at least one UFO - based on the fact that the lights were too high off the ground to be street lights, let alone construction lights. There were no tall buildings in that area. My gut feeling was to try and get past the area as smoothly and quickly as possible. The closer we got, the more discomfort I felt."
But the witnesses' friend was driving and decided to pull over.
"He wanted to stop - right beneath the object - which he did and parked the car on the side of the road. Other cars, two of them, pulled off the road as well. My friend got out of the car and stared up at the large hovering craft. I turned and looked out the back window and saw that a lady had also gotten out of her car too, so after a few seconds I exited the car too."
The reporting witness finally got out of the car too, but stayed close to his open door.
"It was only about 60 feet off the ground. 'Let's get out of here man!' I was almost relieved when the craft finally took off after a short time."
The witness described the craft leaving.
"The craft took of with very little or no sound at all and as the night sky was very clear we could see its path for probably 50 miles or so. It cleared that distance on an even, smooth, curved path out over Lake Michigan in less than three or four seconds."
After reading about UFOs over the years, the witness believes that triangle-shaped UFOs were not reported in high numbers until about the 1980s.
"One big point I have now is that of all I have heard or read about, the triangular UFO sightings are not all that uncommon, but this event happened in 1974, and all the others seemed to have been witnessed in the 80s or later."
