The 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on Jan. 18, 2014, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Here is what this Screen Actors Guild Award winner said backstage in the Screen Actors Guild Awards press room.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries

("Behind the Candelabra")

What are you most looking forward to in 2014?

The first thing that comes to mind is peace in the Middle East. That probably wouldn’t be bad, to see things calm down. As far as professionally, I’m going to savor all of this. My kids are going to be reminded about what I do for a living, because I’ve had a few years where they weren’t quite sure, other than that I made pancakes.

This has been a great labor of love and turned out better than anything we expected in “Candelabra.” I’m doing a Marvel film: “Ant-Man.” Peace on Earth.

What can you say about your role “Ant-Man”?

I can’t say a word. They’ve got me contractually … I can’t say a word.

You can’t even say what your character is going to look like?

No. But I’m trying this out. [He touches his beard.] I don’t know.

Will you be doing more TV projects, possibly with HBO?

Not specifically. It’s been a wonderful, magical experience. We’ve talked about doing some things in the future. I do think “Candelabra” was a bit of a crossover between film and television.

We’ve seen this going on for a while, in terms of what’s progressing in the television area. “Candelabra” was released theatrically in the rest of the world. It’s up for BAFTA nominations as a film. It’s an interesting time. I don’t know where it’s all exactly going, but there’s definitely been a cross-pollination when this happened.

What was the most boundary-pushing scene for you in “Behind the Candelabra”?

Well, forgetting all the hot-tub sequences we had, there was one particular sexual act that we only did one take. Steven Soderbergh, our director, put down the camera and said, “I have no notes.”

What other risks can we expect from you in future roles?

I look at my career as a risk. I’ve never shied away. That’s one of the things I’m most proud about. I like to take chances. I always have. And it paid off most of the time. I have no idea. I don’t go looking for them, but I enjoy flying without a net.
