Mayor Emanuel announces 'Retrofit Weight Loss' headquarters to downtown Chicago

Another corporation is announcing it will move its operations to downtown Chicago. Today, Mayor Rahm Emanuel in partnership with Retrofit Inc. announced Retrofit will move its national headquarters to downtown Chicago, IL, a move that will lead to the doubling of its staff.

“I welcome Retrofit to Chicago and commend the company on its choice of Chicago for its corporate headquarters,” said Mayor Emanuel. “I am committed to bringing new and technologically advanced businesses to Chicago, especially those that want to grow their businesses creating jobs and opportunity for Chicagoans.”

Jeff Hyman, CEO and founder of Retofit Weight Loss, decided at the age of 40 he was carrying too much weight, according to a recent piece in Crain's Chicago Business. Hyman glanced at a snapshot, and there it was, staring him in the face. His 5-foot-8-inch frame was carrying about 190 pounds instead of the 175 pounds he weighed a decade before. “I didn't realize how much I'd gained,” says Mr. Hyman, CEO of Retrofit Inc. “That's when the light bulb went on.”

Retrofit is a data-driven weight management company, dedicated to long-term weight loss for working professionals. Retrofit provides an innovative year-long program that includes wireless monitoring of a client’s weight, activity and sleep, as well as private lessons with a registered dietitian, exercise physiologist, and behavior coach.

"Retrofit Inc. is excited to establish strong roots in Chicago and be among the technology companies that are thriving under Mayor Emanuel’s pro-growth, pro-business leadership," said Retrofit CEO Jeff Hyman. “City Hall’s strong emphasis on investment in commuter infrastructure and workforce development made Chicago the right fit for our continued growth.”

Job creation and the attraction of corporate headquarters to Chicago are central to Mayor Emanuel’s economic blueprint. Today’s announcement marks the 12th corporate headquarters relocation to Chicago and over the 50th technology company to commit to creating jobs for Chicagoans during Mayor Emanuel’s administration.
