Us Magazine is reporting that funny girl, Maya Rudolph, 40, is expecting another baby.
This will be the fourth child for the "Up All Night" actress. Rudolph's long time partner writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson, 42, already have three children, Pearl, 7, Lucille, 3, and Jack, 19 months.
"I keep hearing about this elusive 'date night' where people actually have it together enough to go somewhere," Rudolph joked in a September 2011 iVillage interview. "I think the last date night we had was eating a bowl of cereal at my kitchen table after everybody went to bed. . . I'm really envious of those families that really get it together. It seems so adult to me like, 'And then Friday we'll have date night.' How do they do that?"
Many celebrities decide to have children in their 40's. Rudolph's former SNL co-star Tina Fey had her second baby at age 40.
Pregnancy can be more difficult as people age. When women reach their thirties, they experience a decline in fertility. Also, pregnancy complications are more common after age 35. According to the March of Dimes, the risk of miscarriage is about 35-percent at ages 40 to 44. And the risk of having a baby with down syndrome increases.
The March of Dimes says, today, 1 in 5 women in the U.S. has her first child after age 35 and the majority have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.
Many celebrities haven't let their age stop them from having babies. Kelly Preston had a baby at age 47. Madonna and Annette Benning both gave birth when they were 41 and Susan Sarandon had a baby at age 46.
Seeking fertility treatment is something many couples do, especially in pregnancies where couples are over the age of 40. But sometimes treatments, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) can’t beat the decline of fertility.
According to the Atlanta based Center for Disease Control (CDC) the percentage of live births from IVF procedures using the mother’s eggs decreases with age. By age 39, the percentage of live births after IVF was around 22-percent. After age 43, the percentage of live births is less than 10-percent.
