Maryland Hotel and Lodging Association’s 25th Annual “Stars of the Industry”

It wasn’t quite the Oscars, there were no fashion police picking out the “worse” or “best” dress nominees but what this award ceremony highlighted were those in the Maryland hotel and lodging family for jobs well done. Nominees and industry professionals converged on the Grand Historic Venue for not only a trade show but their awards to those who personified all that is positive in the hotel and lodging industry.

Five (5) hotels and fourteen (13) Individuals were recognized for excellence at the Maryland Hotel & Lodging Association's 25th Annual Stars of the Industry Awards Program. The 2014 award categories and award winners are:


  • Community Service - Loews Annapolis Hotel
  • Good Earth Keeping - The Hotel at Arundel Preserve
  • Guest Relations - Days Inn Inner Harbor
  • Prism Award for Advancing Diversity - Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina
  • Special Event of the Year - Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina


  • Allied Member of the Year - Reverend Stephen Patterson, Towne Park
  • Hotelier of the Year (Select Service Hotel) - Sharon Bear, Courtyard by Marriott - SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hagerstown
  • Hotelier of the Year (Full Service Hotel) - Jeff Makhlouf, The Hotel at Arundel Preserve
  • Manager/Supervisor of the Year - Diego Fernandez, College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center
  • Sales and Marketing Employee of the Year - Jeff Lindeblad, Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center
  • Room Keeper of the Year - Marika Raoufi, Hilton Baltimore
  • Security Officer of the Year - Wendell Moore, Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center
  • Administrative Employee of the Year - Annette Burman, The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court
  • Bell Person of the Year - Tekalegne Gizaw, Doubletree BWI
  • Food and Beverage Employee of the Year - Kimberlee Beck, College Park Marriott Hotel and Convention Center
  • Engineering Employee of the Year - Gregory Scott, Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center
  • Guest Services Agent of the Year - Mariana Greer, Bethesda Marriott
  • Steven Porter Emerging Leader Award - Caitlin Youngk, Historic Inns of Annapolis
