Fresh off his win for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Made for TV Motion Picture at the 2014 Golden Globes, Michael Douglas has joined the cast of Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man". Marvel announced the casting on Jan. 13, 2014.

"With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said about the casting of the Oscar winner.

"We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

In December, Rudd joined the cast of "Ant-Man", following the release of "Anchorman 2". At the time it was believed he would play Pym. But the Douglas announcement by Marvel confirms that Rudd will in fact be playing Scott Lang.

It will be interesting to see how Pym and Lang both fit into the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym is a biochemist who discovered a chemical substance that allow him to shrink down to the size of an ant, hence the name Ant-Man. Pym creates a helmet that allows him to communicate insects as well as control them and uses these powers to solve mysteries.

Lang, the second Ant-Man is a reformed thief and electronics expert who turned to a life of crime to support his family. Stealing Pym's suit, Lang instead became a hero. Now the question remains how Marvel will balance these two incarnations.

"Ant-Man" is set to kick off Marvel's Phase Three in 2015. It currently has a release date set for that year on July 31, just two months after the release of "Avengers: Age of Ultron".
