Marine guard killed at Camp Lejeune by fellow Marine

This evening at approximately 5:30 p.m. a Marine guard at the main gate of Camp Lejeune, N.C. shot and killed a fellow Marine guard.

The discharged weapon was a standard military M4, a combat favorite for all branches of the military.

This is a brand new investigation and the names of both Marines are being withheld at this time. The Navy’s Criminal Investigation Unit has the lead in this shooting.

Officials at the office of the Base Provost Marshal said the incident was isolated and not considered to be an act of terrorism.

No other Marines were injured in the incident. There was no indication that the Marines had been in an altercation prior to the shooting.
