Maria Von Trapp was the woman whose life was portrayed in the classic movie and musical, the “Sound of Music” has passed away at the age of 99. Her story was an inspiration to not only producers, directors, actors but the entire world who heard her story through many venues and the special way the musical movie told the story of her life.
On Feb. 22, US Magazine shared the news of her death. Maria suffered from a weak heart from childhood and it is wonderful and surprising she lived as long as she did. She was the last surviving member the Austrian family and the second eldest daughter. Maria had seven brothers and sisters and passed away in her sleep.
In 1959, Rodgers and Hammerstein were inspired and had a Broadway hit when they told the story of the Von Trapp family journey. In 1965 Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer stared in an adaptation of the original story and inspired the world with the shocking story of the life the family had to live through. The story the “Sound of Music” tells attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Salzburg every year and it has been fifty years since it was originally made.
Fans around the world will be saddened to hear the news of her passing!
