Mandy Playdon, who was first introduced here on March 9th, 2010 is currently awaiting the release of Vampire 2011 directed by Shunji Iwai. The feature film is a Japanese/American/Canadian production starring Kevin Zegars along with Amanda Plummer, Kristin Kreuk, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Rachael Leigh Cook, Trevor Morgan and our own Mandy Playdon.
Mr. Iwai had originally written a book called Vampire in Japanese, but decided he wanted to reach a wider audience and wrote the English screenplay. According to Mandy, one of the really interesting aspects of this film is the fact that Japanese filmmakers don’t use lighting or camera stands. They also tend to film in a way that makes the images darker. Currently, Mr. Iwai is doing his own editing and wants to use his own music. A trailer for the film may become available sometime in December.
Mandy was delighted to share with me her story for getting the part. Evidently, Mr. Iwai was having trouble casting the role of “Stella”. He kept changing his mind about the age of the woman and had already seen 25 other actors. Via word of mouth from her role on Confined, Mandy was able to audition and book the part of Stella.
Vampire 2011 will be released in Hong Kong, showing in a wide range of theatres.
