According to Sunday's Times-Picayune, a Lake Charles, La., man who stole and abused a puppy, has been sentenced to prison time.

Last week, 21-year-old Tyler Scott Sanders pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and theft of an animal; following the plea, a judge sentenced him to ten years in prison.

Sanders will not spend an entire decade behind bars because the judge suspended half of the sentence.

The dog that Sanders stole and abused, a pit bull puppy named "Halo," has mostly recovered from his grievous injuries, which included a fractured skull, broken bones and multiple pellet gun wounds.

Halo recovered under the wing of the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue and his journey has been documented on a Facebook page called "Team Halo."

After Sanders is released from prison, he will have five years of supervised probation - he is also responsible for veterinary expenses and a $5,000 fine.
