A recently divorced couple is dead following an apparent murder and suicide Thursday morning at the upscale Barnsley Gardens resort in Bartow County.
They have been identified as Ms. Angela Player, 37, of Cartersville, and Mr. Robert Wade Brazell, 42, of Kingsland, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation began around 2:40 a.m. when deputies responded to the resort at 597 Barnsley Gardens Road in Adairsville after getting reports that a female clerk had been shot.
They found the wounded Ms. Player who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“Deputies discovered that the male who shot her fled into nearby woods and refused to come out,” the sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Deputies were assisted by the Georgia State Patrol and a GSP helicopter to attempt to locate the shooter.”
Mr. Brazell, who deputies believe shot his ex-wife, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.
They did not say where the man was found or what prompted the deadly shooting.
The two had gotten divorced in January, Sgt. Rogers said.
