Man shoots and kills intruder after returning home to burglary in progress

On Feb. 13 the Prince George’s County Police Department of Maryland reported that a homeowner shot and killed a burglary suspect. The homeowner, a deputy sheriff in Alexandria, VA, returned home late in the night to find his front door damaged. Upon entering the home, the homeowner was confronted by the burglar. The suspect apparently fled from the house after being shot and collapsed in the front yard, where he was found when authorities arrived on the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Prince George Police Department, and authorities believe that at least one other suspect, possibly more, were involved in the burglary as well.

Update: According to a report by The Washington Examiner, a second suspect has been arrested in the attempted burglary. Apparently 23-year-old Brian Keith Whitaker of Southeast D.C. admitted to authorities that he was involved in the burglary in which 20-year-old Jon Adgrain Pocknett, of Indian Head was shot and killed. Whitaker is being held without bond. Thanks to reader Will Ragas of Savannah, Georgia for providing the update.

With NBC’s weeklong series “investigating” “gun violence” in America, which exploits deaths that occurred over a weekend in January in an attempt to gain acceptance for gun control, the Little Rock Gun Rights Examiner has started its own series in an effort to help show that guns not only take lives, they very often save them. The series will highlight 30 days of guns saving lives. This is story number four.
