On Aug. 25, police in Phoenix arrested Guadalupe Castaneda, 25, after he reportedly stole a car and injured several people, including a pregnant woman.
Around 2:30 a.m., Castaneda stole a Dodge Charger from a parking lot near 16th Avenue and Camelback Road, according to the police report.
Before exiting the parking lot, Castaneda ran into the owner of the vehicle, a 17-year-old pregnant woman as well as another woman.
Castaneda then crashed into a car, injuring one of the occupants.
A short chase ensued.
Officers, with assistance from the police helicopter, followed the fleeing suspect until he stopped at 3300 W. Van Buren St.
Castaneda was eventually taken into custody.
The pregnant woman suffered broken ribs and bruised lungs. The unborn baby's condition was more serious.
The vehicle's owner suffered only minor injuries.
Once in custody, Castaneda admitted to "drinking about 30 beers over the course of the evening," according to police.
Castaneda has been charged with multiple counts of hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license, assault, endangerment, theft, unlawful flight from law enforcement, and aggravated DUI.
He is currently being held in the Maricopa County Jail on $45,000 bond.
