Self-decapitation? A Bronx man's grisly decapitation of his own head, using a chain around his neck while driving a speeding car, is shocking readers and left investigators on the scene visibly shaken by the outrageous suicide. The incident occurred in broad daylight Monday morning on Longfellow Avenue in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx.
Writes the NY Daily News: “Tomas Rivera, 51, tied a chain from his head to a pole, then hit the gas on his 2005 Honda CRV in Hunts Point, cops said.”
The horrific suicide left the man’s body in his car, which continued on before crashing into a parked vehicle. The force of the crash then ejected his headless torso from the SUV, while his head, ripped off by the force of the acceleration pulling against the chain, was found near the light pole.
The NY Post reported:
Passers-by who discovered the gruesome scene and called 911 thought the crash was an accidental collision, the sources said, but when authorities investigated, they discovered what had actually happened and found surveillance video that confirmed the ghastly sequence of events.
Police have not released a motive or any additional details on the man's decapitation. Check back for further information as it becomes available.
