Maltais wins 2013 Women's Snowboard Cross World Cup title Friday

According to the Canadian Press, Dominique Maltais of Petite-Riviere-Saint-Francois, Quebec has won the 2013 World Cup title in women's snowboard cross by winning a World Cup race Friday in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

Maltais, who won her fourth race of the season, was "stoked" with the victory as she defeated Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France. Canadian Olympic gold medallist Maelle Ricker finished in third place.

Maltais finished up the season with 5600 points with Moenne Loccoz in second place with 4150 points.

Both Maltais and Ricker are serious medal threats for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Maltais has been on the podium before. She won the bronze medal at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino.

Related to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games theme, the International Olympic Committee is in the process of retesting drug samples from the Olympic Winter Games seven years ago, according to the Associated Press, in an attempt to search for banned substances that were not detected at the time.
