1. What are some key things people should keep in mind when deciding to be a freelance MUA?

People should keep in mind their type of personality of having an understanding of patience. They should work on building their portfolio, maintaining a positive attitude, and save when not making money.

2. How long have you been in the industry?
11 years. I was an attorney for 10 years and then made a career change. Its not how long you do it but HOW you do what you do during that time.

3. What inspired you to go into makeup?

I thought I was awesome (laughs). I did makeup for my daughter’s play and I was able to age the face. I went to school and found out that I didn’t know more than I thought (laughs). But my mother was an artist.

4. What makeup trends do you see for the upcoming Spring/Summer seasons?
I see a lot of peach, minimalism, bohemian, 1960s/1970s, and comfort. Less is more for the appearance.

5. How do you stay positive and inspired in the beauty industry?

I like to train people and help them in their careers and I get excited about their success. The key is to never stop learning.

6. What are good tips on networking?

This is a small industry, therefore utilizing social media, online marketing tools, advertising, and word of mouth are good. You want to check your egos at the door. Give respect and focus on what you’re good at.
