Maison Décor is the latest antique shop of interest to open in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant, SC. They specialize in the best French and Belgian antiques. The owners, Patriek and Anna Demeyere, have been doing personal shopping for twenty years and purchase everything themselves on trips to Europe. He is from Belgium, so he knows the country well. Their company fills a much needed void in the local antiques industry. They have lived in Charleston before, in Park Circle in North Charleston, and they now they live in Mt. Pleasant.
Their shop is in The Common Courtyard, an older shopping complex right next to Shem Creek, the well known traditional location of many seafood restaurants and bars. Their background in the textiles and fabric business lead to their antiques interest. Personal shopping for friends is how they got started. Now they have their own shop in Mt. Pleasant - in one of the oldest sections of the original town - and very easy to find.
Most antique shoppers in Charleston do not know about their shop, and that is unfortunate because there is so little good quality European antique furniture here. They have several large pieces that would look great in the old houses here from the 1800’s with large rooms and high ceilings.
The cupboards and armoires have huge hinges that are very elongated. Some of them are almost the entire length of the door. They have even more furniture in a local warehouse. All this is very useful furniture. It could make a great bar or home office elegant storage. It is high end decorator/designer things for the discriminating sophisticated crowd. This kind of antique is a good investment as well as very fashionable.
