Madonna has grabbed top honours on Pollstar’s newly released Top 50 Worldwide Tours Chart for the 2012 calendar year.
According to a release posted yesterday at Pollstar.com, “The Material Girl” grossed $296.1 million U.S. to nail down No. 1 ranking.
Rounding out the top 5, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band grabbed second spot ($210.2 million); ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters came in at third ($186.4 million); U.K.’s Coldplay took fourth ($171.3 million) and Lady Gaga claimed fifth position ($161.4 million).
Canadian artists to make the top 30 included: folk icon Leonard Cohen in seventeenth spot ($46.1 million), hard rockers Nickelback in eighteenth position, (43.6 million)
superstar rapper Drake in nineteenth (43.3 million), teen pop idol Justin Bieber in twenty-third (40.2 million) and Celine Dion in twenty-ninth spot (36.5 million).
The top 50 touring acts managed a combined gross of $3 billion, which was down about 2 percent from $3.07 billion in 2011 and sold 34.9 million in total ticket sales, a decline from 35.48 million the previous year.
