MacMurray Ranch's Russian River 2013 Pinot Gris provides a summer cool-down

MacMurray Estate’s Vineyards stars in many areas, but for summer, one of the brightest stars is the 2013 Russian River Valley Pinot Gris. Light, crisp and a pleasure on a warm summer afternoon, this Pinot Gris is delightful from the first sip and beckons you to sip more.

The 2013 Pinot Gris, named for the breadth of the MacMurray Estate holdings, is crafted from two of their Russian River Valley holdings. Grapes from both the MacMurray Ranch Vineyard and the Two Rock Vineyard were incorporated into the creation of the light wine.

MacMurray Winemaker Chris Munsell is fastidious about grape selection. In the creation of his wines, he oversees almost all aspects of the wine creation, from winter root care to final grape selection. This attention to detail marks one of the characteristics of the MacMurray label.

The 2013 Pinot Gris is crisp. It is flavored by its subtle pear and fig, and as a definite fruit-forward wine, it will aromatically tempt you just on opening the bottle.

The 2013 MacMurray Russian River Valley Pinot Gris gets its character from the unique Russian River Valley AVA. Cool maritime air combined with some mid-day heat brings out the best in this growing area. Fog is not unusual, so even the hottest of days in surrounding areas may be mellowed by the local marine layers.

Grapes for the 2013 production came primarily (58%) from the MacMurray Ranch Vineyard. Specific selections came from the cool lower valley of the Ranch, having been given a great opportunity to grow as nature provided water, sun and a long growing season.

The remainder of the grapes (42%) came from the Two Rock Vineyard. This area was cooler and provided the apricot and peach on the palate.

At harvest time, the grapes were hand-selected for the best on the vines. The juice were separately fermented and when later combined, brought out the unique and distinct flavors from this harvest.

Harvesting was done in mid-September to early October. Stainless steel tankage was used to prevent any oakiness in the Pinot Gris. For a crisp white wine, this has a heady alcohol content of 14.6%

The wine Munsell has created is a high quality, easy to drink, and a pleasure to serve on warm days when you are looking for a heat-beater. Easy to take with cheese, it also compliments chicken meals and, surprisingly, Mexican food.

Have a winederful day and enjoy!!!
