Luke Bryan will open the CMA Awards tonight with his new song "Drink A Beer." On Nov. 5, he sat down on the "In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts," to talk about his life and also this song. Luke's mom spoke out and said this song was her favorite because it was them. It was a very touching song for them.
This song is about loss and Luke has had to deal with this in his lifetime. His older brother Chris was killed in a car accident. After this, he stayed home to be with his family. His mom said that he knew at some point he would go to Nashville but at this time he couldn't leave.
His dad finally fired him from working on the farm. He told Luke it was time to move on to Nashville and start his career. His big sister Kelly helped him out and was even backstage at the Opry with him. She died a few days later at home and they never found out what the cause of her death was honestly. The lyrics to "Drink a Beer" are obviously about his loss and you can read them here.
Luke has been private about this, but he wants people to know that they are not alone. He wants them to see that God is still gracious. Luke Bryan has moved on and now has a wife, two boys, and is building a new home. If you missed it, check out Luke on the CMAs in this video. Another great country song with meaning is by Lee Brice called "I Drive Your Truck." You can read the story behind at this link.
