Created by cardiologist Arthur Agatston, M.D., the South Beach Diet emphasizes learning to lose weight and keep it off with healthy carbohydrates and fats. It's a phased plan to jump-start weight loss, curb cravings and boost your health.

Approved by WebMD as a healthy way to lose weight, the plan, which we tried, is also surprisingly tasty. You go through three phases, from one that emphasizes protein and healthy fats through a second that adds in such healthy carbs as fruit to a third phase to maintain.
