The Lindsey Vonn leg photo that has gone viral this week might not be what you think. No doubt the pretty blonde skier, who has won four World Cup titles in her career, has some great legs, but there is absolutely nothing sexy or salacious about the picture Vonn posted on her Instagram account earlier this week.
The U.S. skier was injured during competition in early February and has since undergone surgery; the photos she posted for fans this week are of her leg's progress.
Lindsey Vonn Leg Photo: Skiing Injury, Post-Op Progress isn't Pretty
The injury happened as Vonn competed in the Skiing World Championships in Austria on Feb. 5; the 28-year-old alpine ski racer, who now faces an uncertain future in the sport that has made her famous, tore both her ACL and MCL in the injury.
Typical recovery time for an ACL injury alone can be anywhere from six months up to a year. Even surgery and physical therapy can't promise full athletic use as is required in sports like competitive skiing. Despite her pain and the uncertainty of her future, Vonn is said to be in fairly good spirits and is maintaining an "upbeat" attitude. The four-time World Cup winner, who is among the top two female athletes in her sport in that regard, will no doubt work hard to regain her ability to compete.
In keeping with today's "share everything" mantra, bolstered by social media and the Internet in general, the Lindsey Vonn leg photo is helping give Vonn's worried fans an inside look at her recovery. The photos, seen here above, are fairly gnarly, depicting heavy bruising on the injured limb; multiple areas appear stitched and taped up to promote healing and keep infection at bay.
