On January 12, 2013, One Directon's Liam Payne, 19, celebrated the 20th birthday of his One Direction band mate Zayn Malik by going on a Twitter follow spree.
Payne tweeted: "WANT ME TO FOLLOW YOU? THEN GO FOLLOW @iMalikArmy FIRST, RT IF YOU DID! HURRY, ONLY THE FIRST 50."
Payne added, "listen directioners and beliebers. liam, niall, zayn, louis, harry & justin gonna follow everyone who follows @Adzlegends :) RT"
The hashtag #LIAMSFOLLOWSPREE immediately began trending worldwide on Twitter.
Earlier in the day, the words "Zayn Malik" became a trending topic worldwide.
One Direction's Harry Styles, 18, tweeted this birthday message: "@zaynmalik HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAD BOIIII!! Happy 20th to a great great friend. Had some amazing times, looking forward to more! Love you bro."
One Direction's Niall Horan, 19, tweeted: "Massive happy birthday to one of my best mates! @zaynmalik ! 20 now ! Wohoo! Pints."
And this message was posted on One Direction's official Twitter account: "It's @zaynmalik's birthday today! #HappyBirthdayZayn! Thanks to everyone who designed Zayn a card! 1DHQ."
Malik didn't tweet anything on his birthday, but sources say that he spent the day with his girlfriend Perrie Edwards of Little Mix. Edwards and Malik have been dating since April 2012.

One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and the group has since become the most successful global act to emerge from "The X Factor," by having No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries. One Direction's 2013 world tour has concert dates from February to October. Almost all of the concerts sold out a year in advance. The announced tour dates are in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
