Larry David tried to pretend that he wasn’t overly excited about playing golf with President Obama. He may have said, “I sized up their handicaps, and the President looked like my best partner.” So, he joined him in team competition.
While in the locker room, David noticed that the President’s golf shirt was designed by Kenneth Cole (on the opposing team). Cole had promised that David’s shirt design was unique, but the President’s shirt looked very much the same as David’s.
So, David’s plan was to get his hands on the President's shirt so that he could confront Cole about the apparent conflict. When Jeff Garlin (Jeff Green) showed up to watch on the 18th hole, David whispered to him that he needed his help to seize the President’s shirt in the locker room.
Reluctant, though always supportive, Jeff agreed that he would take the President’s shirt when the golfers were showering.
Of course, Jeff was caught stealing the President’s shirt by the Secret Service. However, the Secret Service became distracted by some showgirls and Garlin still managed to escape with the shirt.
During the evening cocktail, David confronted Kenneth Cole by presenting the President’s shirt just as the President and Michelle Obama walked up.
Michelle asked, “Barack, isn’t that your shirt?”
