Lady Gaga has managed to pull off yet another controversial fashion stunt. On Jan 15, 2013, the New York Post reported, "Gaga tatas pack 'ire' power" in a story designed to tug on the heartstrings of Americans who are still reeling from the tragedy in Newtown, CT. When she showed up on stage to perform live at her latest concert wearing faux assault rifles strapped to her bosoms, even USA Today posited that it might be time for her to retire her gun bra from her garish publicity arsenal. But that's not the strangest thing she's done this week to capitalize on free publicity. There is also a rumor going around that she might be buying the home of deceased singer Michael Jackson. Believe it.
According to nearly every mainstream media news source this week, Mother Monster has once again elected to use the conversation of gun violence to promote herself as the most controversial figure in the pop culture world. The New York Post shared the strange celebrity news, saying, "The pop megastar fired up controversy – – and drew fierce criticism from gun-control advocates [in the United States] – – when she donned a skimpy top outfitted with plastic assault rifle replicas..." while performing in Canada last week.
While her Little Monster advocates say bras do not kill people (almost in chorus), this is not the first time the diva has pointed her weapons of mass distraction at both fans and critics. She also wore a bra covered with what many assumed were toy weapons on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine back in 2010. Allegedly, she did so to make an artistic statement about something quasi-political -- but to this day no one seems to know quite what her point was for certain.
What do her critics [as opposed to Little Monsters fan base] think? "I think it is gun porn..." proclaimed a disgruntled spokesman for the Coalition To Stop Gun Violence after hearing about her latest round of 2013 on-stage antics. The DC-based initiative seeks to curb Second Amendment rights to bear arms for all Americans.
Amidst a raging national debate about gun control, the pop culture figure's latest outrageous fashion choice, oddly enough, seemed to be both timely and inappropriate. "The getup stirred up chatter as some people noted that she shouldn't do that in the wake of the Newtown school massacre last month..." said USA Today.
But wearing a gun bra on stage is not the strangest headline news Lady Gaga has made lately while she's been getting busy self-promoting. New celebrity real estate news reports from the Sun and Noise 11 indicates that she might be trying to buy Neverland -- the former private estate and theme park of pop music singer Michael Jackson.
Regarding the other strange news [even stranger than the gun bra controversy], the Sun writes:
Now the crackpot singer has set her sights on the ultimate celebrity possession -- Michael Jackson's ranch...
Neverland would be a great place to show off her other buys...
The British tabloid claims Gaga also owns, "Judy Garland's Wizard Of Oz ruby slippers, a posh frock worn by Daphne Guiness, and 55 of Jacko’s most personal items she recently bought [at a recent celebrity estate] auction."
