The Gibson Amphitheatre celebrated KROQ’s 22nd Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas. They had a different kind of caroling, on Dec. 10.
New Found Glory kicked off the show. They sang Ramone’s “Hey Ho, Lets Go!” They also performed their most recent single, “Anthem for the Unwanted”. The stage was a bit small for them to perform on. Jordan Pundik performed the entire set in a Santa outfit, minus the beard. They closed their set with a rendition of “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”.
Young the Giant performed, next. Sameer Gadhia alternated between microphones between a standard microphone and a retro radio microphone. Their sound resembled a fusion of Coldplay, The Killers, and U2. Gadhia’s entire body moved as he played the tambourine.
Chevelle were next. They performed many hits from the past decade such as: “Send the Pain Below” and “The Red”. Pete Loeffler had mentioned they were alumni of KROQ’s annual Christmas show. It had been six years, since they performed on stage.
Bush slowly followed. There was a minor delay. Guitar chords were strum and women could be heard screaming, in the audience. They sang a few songs, such as: off with “Machinehead”, “Everything Zen”, and a cover of “Come Together” by The Beatles. Gavin Rossdale jumped into the crowd and the crowd went crazy.
Then, it was Sublime with Rome’s turn. They started their performance by singing “Smoke Two Joints”. This would be the last performance that drummer, Floyd “Bud” Gaugh. He needed to tend to family needs because he is welcoming a child to the world. They also performed “What I Got” and “Santeria”.
Social Distortion went next. Mike Ness performed in his signature suspenders, dress shirt, and loose dress pants. They performed “So Far Away”, “Story of My Life”, “California”, and their rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”. Social D are also alumni of the annual Christmas show.
The stage rotated and 311 performed. They sang a few songs including: “Beautiful Disaster”, “All Mixed Up”, “Sunset in July”, and “Amber”. They brought a drum piece that occupied the entire stage and they played together. It was the highlight of the night.
Blink-182 headlined the first night of the two-night event. They performed hits such as: “What’s My Age Again?” and “The Rock Show”. Mark Hoppus encouraged those attending the night to yell, “Blink-182 was better than you.” Especially, during Death Cab for Cutie’s performance.
