Kristin Cavallari lost 20 pounds just two months after giving birth to her second son, thanks to a low carb, dairy-free Paleo-inspired diet.
Cavallari, a longtime fitness fanatic, said eliminating dairy and processed foods (which the Paleo diet emphasizes) is critical for weight loss.
"I don't put any toxic chemicals in my body," Kristin told Access Hollywood. "I'm a freak about reading the ingredients. I don't count calories, I just read what's in whatever I'm going to be putting in my mouth."
Like other Paleos, Cavallari also avoids dairy, which she said is a major cause of weight gain. "I stay away from dairy for the most part," she said. "I think that is the No. 1 weight gainer. If you're going to get one thing out of your diet, it should be dairy."
Meals Include Grass-Fed Beef, Bison and Coconut Oil
Cavallari's diet includes Paleo favorites such as grass-fed beef and bison and healthy fats such as coconut oil.
"My diet is always the same," Kristin told E! "We eat a ton of veggies, chicken, grass-fed beef, bison and fish. We also love sweet potatoes and brown rice pasta."
Cavallari said her breakfast is usually a smoothie, oatmeal or eggs, while lunch is a salad or turkey sandwich. Kristin also snacks most afternoons, enjoying nuts with dried cherries, chips with hummus, or an apple with almond butter.
Cavallari also makes sure to eat healthy Paleo-approved fats such as avocados, olive oil and coconut oil. "I love avocados with olive oil and sea salt and I put coconut oil in or on everything," she said.
Celebs Embrace Paleo for Weight Loss and Health
The Paleo diet emphasizes high-quality animal proteins, healthy fats, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, starches, alcohol and processed foods. It has a huge celebrity following, including Tim McGraw (who credits it for his jaw-dropping 40-pound weight loss), Joe Manganiello, Kellan Lutz, and supermodel Adriana Lima.
Research suggests the low-carb Paleo diet promotes weight loss and prevents cancer, diabetes, epileptic seizures, and Alzheimer's. TV star Jack Osbourne and singer Chad Vaccarino both use the Paleo diet to treat their multiple sclerosis.
Cavallari also exercised regularly during and after pregnancy. She started working out just three weeks after her second son, Jaxon, was born (in May 2014). Kristin's workout routine focuses on weight-lifting and cardio.
"I've been working out four to five times a week for 30 to 45 minutes at home, doing tons of leg work like squats, lunges and lifting weights," she said. "I want to start Pilates again to focus on my core."
Thanks to her hard work, Kristin is now just a couple of pounds away from her pre-baby weight. Cavallari isn't the only celebrity who has lost weight quickly with the Paleo diet.
Megan Fox credited the low-carb Paleo diet for her rapid weight loss just five months after giving birth to her second child "I've had to eliminate bread from my diet, so I'm on that high-protein, very low-carbohydrate, very low-sugar diet," said Fox.
