KojiPro clarifies details regarding Metal Gear Solid 4’s trophies and old saves

A rumor recently popped up regarding how the upcoming trophy patch for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will delete the old save files from the game. In their latest podcast episode, Kojima Productions’ Sean Eyestone addressed the rumor, clarifying some details in the process. You can check out some screenshots from the Playstation 3 exclusive title in the slideshow at the top of this article and his statement below:

Just want to say that’s not true; so your save data will still remain. Download your trophy patch. You don’t have to worry about that. The only thing is that you have to replay the game in order to get the trophies. The trophies aren’t going to be applied based on your old save data. That’s the only thing we want to stress. So you have to start over to get new trophies but you will still have your old save data there.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was first released for the Playstation 3 in North America on June 12, 2008. In addition to adding trophy support, the upcoming patch will also include a full install option. Konami Digital Entertainment will be releasing the update in Japan on August 6th and in North America sometime in early August.
