Kingsbury wins World Cup moguls competition on Olympic course

According to the Canadian Press, Mikael Kingsbury of Deux-Montagnes, Quebec won a World Cup moguls competition in Sochi, Russia on Friday.

The victory was key for Kingsbury because he won on the same course that will host the 2014 Olympic Winter Games next year.

Kingsbury also becomes the clear favourite to become the third Canadian to win an Olympic gold medal in men's moguls competition, joining Jean-Luc Brassard of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer and Alexandre Bilodeau of Montreal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

It was an excellent day for Canadian moguls overall as Philippe Marquis of Quebec City won the bronze medal.

Kingsbury had 25.93 points, followed by Patrick Deneen of the United States at 24.96 points and Marquis at 24.68 points. Kingsbury also leads the World Cup standings with 605 points, 152 more points than Bilodeau.

The 2013 World Cup moguls season continues next Saturday in Inawashiro, Japan.
