LCHF Ketogenic Diet Fuels Fast Weight Loss

Kardashian credited the low-carb Atkins diet for her jaw-dropping 50-pound weight loss, which she achieved in just six months.

Kim's weight-loss plan was a low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet known for producing rapid weight loss. Her diet consisted of 1,800 to 2,200 calories and limited daily carb intake to just 50-60 grams.

Kardashian's daily menu combined proteins like fish, chicken and meat; healthy fats like olive oil, avocados and nuts; lots of fresh vegetables, and some low-glycemic fruits like berries.

Ketogenic Diet Curbs Depression

In addition to accelerating weight loss, the low-carb, high-fat Atkins and ketogenic diets have been touted for fighting depression and bipolar disorder.

"A number of recent studies have shown how a low-carb diet [like the Atkins and ketogenic diets] can relieve depression," Linda O'Byrne, chief nutritionist for the New Atkins Nutritional Approach, told me.

Low-carb diets keep blood sugar levels stable and prevent food cravings, which helps with mental clarity and boosts mood. The intake of natural fats, especially foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, is also increased, which are linked with improved mood and reduced risk of depression."

Dietitian Dr. Jeff Volek, a professor at the University of Connecticut, agrees. "It was nothing short of an epiphany when I changed to a ketogenic diet 20 years ago," Dr. Volek, author of the Art and Science of Low-Carbohydrate Living, told me. "I felt better, more satiated, and had more consistent energy."

Kardashian also exercises almost every single day, combining rigorous cardio workouts with strength-training and lots of squats. She is proud of the hard work she has put in, and slammed rumors that she got weight-loss or other plastic surgery.

"I am very frustrated seeing reports that I got surgery to lose my baby weight!" said Kim. "This is false. I worked so hard to train myself to eat right and healthy. I work out so hard. Say what you want about me, but I work hard and am the most disciplined person you will ever meet!"
