If Barack Obama were to have his ex-girlfriend executed or make one of his top Generals disappear, would his approval rating stand higher than 44 percent? Seoul National University interviewed 133 North Korean defectors who believe that 61.7 percent of the people in the DPRK approve of their Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un. The results of the poll, which were released today, show a higher approval rating of Kim Jong Un than that of President Obama’s 44 percent as well as British Prime Minister David Cameron’s 32 percent.
Had the poll been scientifically accurate and conducted in North Korea, Kim’s approval rating would have trounced Obama’s approval rating at a rate hovering around 100 percent. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which is neither a democracy nor a republic, enforces the most oppressive laws in the world. Speaking out against the Supreme Leader or complaining about food rations is punishable by execution or imprisonment, along with one’s entire extended family detained in a North Korean concentration camp.
The most recent poll by North Korean defectors not only show a higher approval rating of Kim Jong Un to the leaders of Western powers, the results show him to be more popular than his father, Kim Jong Il. In a similar survey conducted in 2011, the defectors believed that 55 percent of North Koreans supported Kim Jong Il.
The pool of defectors also stated in the poll that they believe 81 percent of North Korean citizens receive three meals a day and 44 percent buy at least one piece of clothing per year.
What would our administration’s approval rating be if a study were conducted by ex-patriots and those who renounced American citizenship? At least we don’t have to live in fear when we let our true feelings about our leaders be heard.
