Killed same day sister sat behind Obama Chicago gun control speech (VIDEO) (Photos)

The story of an Ill. woman killed on the same day her sister sat behind President Obama in Chicago is making headlines in the US and the UK.

The UK’s Guardian newspaper headline on Sunday read, “Chicago teenager shot and killed after sister attends Obama speech on guns

"Sister of 18-year-old Janay McFarlane sat behind the president during speech about gun control hours before sibling died.”

The London-based Daily Mail headline read, "Mother, 18, shot dead 'by gunmen aiming for someone else' hours after her sister heard President Obama speak about the need for gun control at a South Chicago high school."

Janay McFarlane, 18, was shot and killed just hours after her sister sat on a stage behind President Obama who gave a speech on the need for tighter gun control.

The UK has strict gun control law which ban gun possession for civilians.

McFarlane was killed just before midnight on Friday.

In Friday’s speech the president said, "Last year, there were 443 murders with a firearm in this city, and 65 of them were 18 and under. That's the equivalent of a Newtown every four months.

"That's precisely why the overwhelming majority of Americans are asking for some common sense proposals to make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun.”

The speech was given at the Hyde Park Career Academy. McFarlane’s 14-year-old sister was on the stage in the background behind President Obama. Hours later her sister would be shot and killed.

McFarlane’s mother said that bullet that killed her daughter was intended for someone else and that her daughter was not the intended target.
