Betting tipsters will have a keen eye on Frankel as the horse racing favourite in a field of 17 in the Group 1 QIPCO Sussex Stakes on August 1. The Henry Cecil-trained thoroughbred is unbeaten in 11 starts and is the defending champion of Sussex Stakes when he beat Canford Cliffs by five lengths in 2011.
Owned by Khalid Abdulla, Frankel won by an astounding 11 lengths in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes which took place at Royal Ascot last month. Trainer Aidan O’Brien has seven remaining entries to the event and will have Excelebration rival Frankel’s efforts on August 1st.
Excelebration came in second to Frankel on four occasions, and will likely see second-best favourite in betting odds. Aidan O’Brien will have Power (Irish 2,000 Guineas winner), Maybe (Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner in 2011), and Ishvana (Group 3 Jersey Stakes winner at Royal Ascot).
Other entrants include Richard Hannon's Strong Suit and Trumpet Major. Foxtrot Romeo and Planteur will also contend for honors, while Cecil can also run Chachamaidee and Bullet Train. However, Frankel clearly appears to be on a short list of elite runners in British horseracing.
John Gosden’s Shantaram will sprint in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket on Thursday. Gosden also has two noteworthy racehorses in Michelangelo and Thought Worthy.
