Russ Ptacek, Investigative Reporter for KSHB Channel 41 and a group of secret sleuths have gone to a house and an abandoned building in search for clues on missing Kara Kopetsky's case and have found, what they believe the Belton police have missed.
Ptacek went with a "secret group" of Kopetsky sleuths to look at the evidence that they have found at undisclosed locations, reports KSHB News. The locations are being kept secret so that the evidence is not disturbed.
During this investigation, the "secret groups" identities were hidden as they are afraid of reprisal from suspects or police. Regardless, they are driven to find out what happened to Kara Kopetsky, and they believe the answers they seek may be at this house and abandoned building.
"There has been a lot of rumors and a lot of innuendoes about that house, said Kara's dad.
Ptacek, a camera man and the secret group went to an abandoned building where they found graffiti on the walls. One said "Kara is gone" and another says, "I did it."
They also went to an undisclosed home and in the basement with the cameras rolling you can see a cadaver dog repeatedly sitting down, which is what it has been trained to do if it smells human remains.
"The dogs were hitting on something, I think it is a possibility that, yes, she could be there," said Kara's mom, Rhonda Beckford.
Evidently the Belton Police does not want the secret groups help as the group and Kara's parents have been told by the police that they would possible subpoena them for interfering with the investigation.
Belton Police Chief said in a statement he acknowledged that he was considering a grand jury to question, "uncooperative witnesses."
“The Belton MO Police Department has had conversations with the Cass County Prosecutor’s office about the possibility of utilizing the grand jury to question otherwise uncooperative potential witnesses,” said Police Chief James Person. “The Belton MO Police Department remains committed to the investigation into the disappearance of Kara Kopetsky.”
This is what the "secret group" has been worried about and told Ptacek they have handled over each piece of evidence to the FBI and Kansas City police, but have not given it to the Belton police as they don't trust them to solve this case.
Ptacek contacted the prosecutors office to see if any paperwork had been filed and they said they did not have any submission from the police and there has been no plans for a grand jury.
The Belton Police did show up at the house and according to Kara's parents were there for about 40 minutes and never returned.
“I don't believe you can do a thorough search in 40 minutes,” Rhonda Beckford told Ptacek. “Those dogs are hitting on something.”
Ptacek says the "secret group" stated that instead of investigating Kara's case they are investigating them.
Hopefully, Ptacek's story will bring all this out in the opening and there will be some answers.

Kudos to Ptacek for a job well done. Even though Ptacek has gotten a new job in Washington and is leaving Kansas City, hopefully, he has stirred up this investigation enough that the authorities will thoroughly investigate the house, and literally do some digging, because judging by the reactions by the dog there has to be something there.
